About the Cuyonon Language and Culture Project

Our greatest hope is that the Cuyonon language can be preserved, celebrated, and passed down to future generations. This dictionary offers a lasting record of a language and culture that are at risk of disappearing.

In 1994 a team of Cuyonons began recording words spoken by Cuyonons in their homes and workplaces. A team of Cuyonon speakers and experts transcribed and analyzed the recordings and created the first Cuyonon-English dictionary. Available as an App on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Meet the three dictionary authors-Ester Timbancaya Elphick, Virginia Howard Sohn, and Filusa “Feling” Timbancaya—and some of the numerous researchers, consultants, donors, and advisors who have worked on the project since 1994.
